This paper attempts to throw some light on Agusín's much more superficial relationship with Jacopo Strada, the Mantuan artist and antiquary who had forsaken his native soil by the early 1540s, but made a second Roman visit about a decade later, and on Strada's antiquarian work, which appears to have been influenced at least to some degree by his contacts with Agustín.

Jacopo Strada presumably first met Antonio Agustín during his sojourn in Rome from late 1553 to 1555. Though Strada had been in Rome earlier, presumably in the 1530s, it was now that he entered the circle of erudite churchmen, particians and scholars deeply interested in the study of classical
