As the editor and commentator of Vignola's Le due regole della prospettiva pratica, published in 1583 [Vignola/Danti 1583], Danti is also an important source for Vignola's biography.

In the dedicatory letter of this edition to Giacomo Boncompagni, Danti mentions that he had acquired the copy of Vignola's book from Niccolò Gaddi:

'Mediante la cortesia del Cavaliere Niccolò Gaddi, gentilhuomo di singulare ingegno, il quale oltre all'altre doti é grandemente amatore di così fatte virtù; feci acquisto delle due presenti Regole, che prima per intera & certa notitia di dett'Arte erano state dal Vignola ritrovate.' According to Francesca Foriani 'Danti visited the site of the temple [of Neptune or Portumnus at Ostia – BK] many times, fulfilling [pope] Gregory XIII's commission to survey the ruins [of Ostia? – BK].' [Foriani 2003, page 153, footnote 13]
